Default Desperate for work near Blackpool

    Hi everyone,

Im sorry if this is not the area for this but i got made redundant just before christmas and have just completed a 4 day floor and wall tiling course. If any one is from Blackpool or surrounding areas and needs a labourer or trainee tiler i would be so grateful for a chance. i have full license and a car so I can travel around.

Thanks to everyone who reads this.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Thing is I have only done one wall and a small floor on the course so before I went solo and risked getting a bad name for my self I just wanted to spend a month or two with one of you pro guys so I could leave confident in my work with more sound knowledge of the methods, adhesives, grouts etc.

I hope my post has not put the image across I am lazy and relying on work to come to me, I have all the motivation to go out and get my own work when the time is right, like I say, i just wanted to get some experience in the field.

Thanks again for all your advice guys.

hi buddy,i was in the same boat as you last christmas.got made redundant as a landscaper and decided to try another trade. i did a 2 week course in warrington (PTS) i then sent out 30 letters to all the tilers in the area........i got 1 response and he told me he had no work. i had to bite the bullet and put an ad in the citizen.
i slowly started getting calls. its really nerve racking knowing that every tile i laid had to be perfect and it took ages to finish a job whilst hardly earning anything out of it and also going in and pricing the jobs whilst pretending id done it for years!!
unfortunately the citizen has been credit crunched and is no longer around, but my reputation is starting to speak for itself now as i havent advertised since sept! (apart from the odd pile of cards in tile shops)and even kept on going through most of christmas. the calls have just started coming in again now.
i too would rather of been a tilers buddy for a stint to begin with but i had no choice and had to learn the hard way.
ive only been tiling for a year (in blackpool) but my advice is get as many decent cards printed out as you can afford and get them in every tile shop and give them everyone you know aswell as posting them through as many doors as you can.and also get to know the tile shop advisors as they will push out your cards if they like you!
sorry to drag on! any problems you have along the way......get back on here cuz the guys are ace!
    good luck!!
ps,mr.site.co.uk do a website for around 35 quid.if you can get one and advertise it, that also helps once you get a few piccys in your portfolio!
    im going now.

I found it very good. It's a Tiler from Lancaster doing the course now. Me and my mate were his first students when we went on the course. He explained everything well. i will try and upload the pics off my phone what we did.

The place has moved to Redscar industrial estate now, looks like they are giving it a big push, new building and all. They do joinery, plumbing, plastering, tiling now.

You could also put some post cards in shop windows. I have a friend who is a nurse at a hospital & she puts them up around there for me.

im glad you enjoyed it god they have branched out abit i did my plastering course about a year ago now they were in a dingy unit in ashton next to a brothel i learnt abit on the course i had a bit of plastering experience before hand but what i paid for the course i cant complain. at least they have a new tutor i heard the last one wasnt very good. My dad did the tiling course at LSP to help me with setting up lets just say he wont be helping me on anyone jobs when i went there to see the tiling course i wasnt very impressed small bay units. im glad they have improved.

at the moment im a little quite now but im should have 5 weeks work booked in but nothing definete if any big jobs crop up ill gladly let you know if i need a hand or labouring in the mean time hand out a few of your cards try get some small jobs friends family see where you go from there. also something to point out have you tried ringing tilers out of the blackpool area try as many as you can some tilers are busy and maybe willing to take you on for experience keep trying in the yellow pages worth ago

    best of luck

    Thanks LM.

I did pull off all the Tilers in Blackpool, Poulton, Fylde area and sent letters with C.V through. Heard nothing back since weekend when I hand delivered them though.

    Thanks for your offer LM.

    Welcome to the forums.

At first you may need to widen your area of work beyond tiling. Suggest you consider odd jobs as a whole.

Also keep an eye on this forum. I've not done a course but from what I can gather there seems to be a lot here mentioned that doesn't get covered on a 4 day course.
