    Default Colouring Travertine

Is it possible to alter the colour of classic honed and filled travertine? I have some left over from my kitchen floor job and i'd like to experiment with the off cuts for making a Roman style of mosaic for an outside table. if i soaked them in some sort of colour solution in buckets would they take up the colour? I am always informed of how it is essential to treat travertine after laying with expensive solutions to make them non-pourous, so i am hoping that they will take up colour for experimenting with mosaics.

What could i use to colour them?

    thanks

No idea! I am sure travertine (which is actually a natural sediment) is sealed with resin at the time of production by the factory. When they produce and hone it they add resin thus sealing it and filling the gaps.

And I thought the resin was clear so that the true colour of the material was enhanced.

Altering the colours of the natural material by adding a dye after it has been factory finished might be difficult.

it is possible but there are several natural occuring colours of travertine ranging from red through to yellow including brown, white and beige and some with greenish tints so lots of colours for your palette when you start your mosaic
