I've been trading as Grout of this World for just over 12 months. I was taught tiling by my Dad, who has been in the trade since leaving school and I attended a 4 week course to learn new materials and skills knowledge before embarking on a self-employed career.

I have a very strong work ethic and will ensure that a job is completed within the specified timescale and to mine and the customers satisfaction and expectation. I expect to do a job once and not have any reason to return to fix or change, so pride myself on displaying the correct and professional knowledge, and completing the work correctly with the correct tools and materials.

I, primarily, work within the domestic sector, however, have taken some small commercial work. I am confident working with all tile types, including natural stones and can provide electric underfloor heating and floor levelling. I believe that a customers property is to be respected and treat their homes as I would want a tradesman to treat mine - with respect and minimum disruption. I don't leave my tools on a customers property and I make sure I leave as I find (with the exception of additional tiles fixed - lol).

I take the time to understand my client requirements and ensure that I communicate clearly and effectively with my customers. I turn up when I say I will, whether that is to quote or start, and I will not start another job until the current job is complete. I'm totally honest and conscientious and provide a service that represents quality and value for money. I don't ask for a penny payment until the client has confirmed satisfaction with the work.

Reputation is important in growing a business and I have, only, happy and satisfied customers that are more than willing to recommend me.

    IMPERIAL TILING

2 : what type of work you undertake

Domestic mainly - some site work - also the main approved fitter at Topps (don't laugh!)

3 : how long you have been trading........are you time served or not.

In my second year now. Served no apprenticeship - Dad ran a tiling team and learnt the basics off him. Rest is self-taught. A few specialist courses completed. Tiling experience is several years overall though.

4 : what do you think makes YOU a good tile fixer..( not anybody else)

Professional Attitude & Approach to work. Perfectionist but with commercial sense. My professional manner (believe it or not!) was learnt from years in industrial field sales dealing with anything from a few hundred quid deals to million pound plus. This helps me win my work, especially as I tend towards the mid to top-end market.

    5 : Tell me why..If i was to need a fixer .. i should use you....

My work is excellent, my rates are reasonable and I'm a nice guy! (and I look good in workwear - ladies!)

    Here go's then;

    M.C.WARD SERVICES
Domestics, commercial using ceramics, natural stone and porcelain. Also do the plastering , dry lining and screeding, did actually train as a decorater from 1971-76. Trained on tiling from 76 for short while but did'nt continue. Started taking tiling more serious about 10 years ago when I did the Bal course, no cost then. Done a few courses but darren at nett was the best so far and I only wanted the natural stone, but still looking to improve my skills concerning tiling (never to old to learn). I take pleasure in doing a good job but I'm my own worst critic, all work is recommendations. Allways have a good rapport with customers

    Got an ASET from Nett

Well, not sure if it's appropriate for me to be on here, but if not, chuck me off, Dave.

1 : company name: MAKEitSO MOSAICS

2 : what type of work you undertake:
    • Artistic, freestyle floor wall and sculptural mosaics, custom made for both the residential and business market, internal and external designs, surrounded where necessary by tiles fixed by myself or by good quality tilers (ideally from tilers forum) nationwide. Also feature walls and developing a special interest in geometric tiling.
3 : how long you have been trading........are you time served or not:
    • Started Mosaics just over a year ago as a change of profession, have extensive complete house renovation experience inlcuding tiling. Most recent tiling experience was the course at NETT in December, current project bathroom walls to include mosaic and all tiling, project in pipe line kitchen splashback with feature.
4 : what do you think makes YOU a good mosaic artist / tile fixer..( not anybody else):
    • The fact that I offer both customers and other tilers everywhere more design choices, to turn any wall or floor into something even more special and completely unique, designed to exact size, colour, shape, specification, to fit in with their ideas and with the surrounding tiling.
    • All my mosaics are made entirely by myself, can be installed directly onto the wall or aquaboard, or more conveniently for all concerned on a mesh (finer but more solid than ordinary mosaic sheet mesh, stays true to shape).
    • All work can easily be posted to any location and fixed and grouted by the tiler or by myself if the need arises.
    5 : Tell me why..If i was to need a mosaic artist / fixer .. I should use you....:
    • What makes me good at what I do is utter perfectionism and that I can see what can be done from a tiling and an artistic perspective and what materials to use or not, as the case may be. Freestyle mosaic art is now usually a somewhat exclusive stand alone luxury, as most mosaic artists do not know how to incorporate their work with tiling, let alone know how to tile. I can do both or if I need help with any of the tiling aspects I have the contacts to call on other tilers to collaborate with.
    • As yet most residential customers in the UK miss out on an old craft made available at reasonable rather than inflated 'artist' prices.
    • My mosaic is not limited to glass or ceramic,- wooden features or even broken sentimental value items can also be made into special focal points.

Just sen the thread, so here goes....

    Chris Martin Tiling

I undertake all domestic work from kitchen splashbacks to swimming pools, from ceramic to natural stone (which I do more of). I get my work from word of mouth and the two larger tile shops near me...Topps, where I am one of four Topps Approved Fitters, and Tile Giant. I dont need to advertise, my work does it for me.

I have been tiling for two years after a lifetime in a Bank and Building Society, where I learned the excellent customer service skills I now use in my tiling work. I therefore do what I say, when I say it to the satisfaction of the customer. I am professional and take pride in the work I do.

Think that covers it...now then Dave...why did you ask?

My company name is Finishing Touch and i cover Devon and Cornwall,
When i meet the customer for the first time i introduce myself as Steve from Finishing Touch, ceramic tiler.
I give them my portfolio for them to look at while i am measuring up there job, on the first page is names and contact nos. for references which they can contact by phone between 6-8 in the evenings, Then there is my information experience/gaurantees given etc, next to the photos is a description of the job, tile sizes and work carried out etc, and in some cases before/during/after photos.
I talk to the customer about what they want and how they visualise the tiling job i have come to look at, if they are unsure, or i can see a problem with there ideas then i will advise them of ways to over come this or give them suggestions and help them to visualise what it will look like.
While we are talking away i also talk about other jobs i have done and been on and also sometimes problems that have been encountered and gotten other so as they know i know what i am talkin about and i have the experience of 15 years.
I hope to make them feel comfortable with me and for them to know they are getting a tradesman who is perticular with the standard of work i carry out..

I started out in Chicago tile setting with my father & older brother Eak. Married my dear departed wife who was English & moved over here tiling 25yrs ago. Time served in the US, have no tiling quals here, but have now attained part P reg sparky. I also have some plumbing skills and utilise all these aspects for a complete package in domestic bathrooms, where I am happiest. I advertised briefly when I established myself here, but soon found the recommendations were more than enough to give me a prolonged career. The most important aspects of my professionism, is advising correctly, leaving no stone unturned to create the clients dream, and above all dilligence and common respect and courtesy for the hand that feeds.

    Company Name

I have been trading for six months and there's nothing I don't know. Mind you Iv'e never done tiling before Iv'e been a butcher all that time. It's only slapping some tiles up! how hard can it be?
    Why Me
Rest assured I will only charge as much as I can for as little work as possible. I will turn up when it suits me and leave around 3, leaving you plenty of time to tidy up after me before you make the family's tea.

No really pretty much as others have said.
    Trade under My own name.
    Only do domestic work.
Free quotes, not estimates. ( though this is getting harder with all the differing materials about).
    Honest,reliable,trusworthy.
Finish one job before starting another.
All my work is from word of mouth (it's the only way to have it on an Island)
Leave the property clean and tidy.
    Happy customer=get paid promptly.
