Sealing Porcelain tiles
Hi,
I recently fitted some porcelain floor tiles. The tile boxes said to seal them so I got some porcelain tile sealer from BandQ - think it was the plasplugs brand.
Unfortunately the label on the sealer container got wet & the instructions were unreadable. I just went ahead & applied the sealer with a cloth, & I left it overnight. In the morning the tiles had a sticky film left over from the sealer. I initially tried cleaning the film off with a dry cloth but this didn't work - it was very sticky - , so I wiped it off with a damp cloth. The tiles look fine.
Will my tiles now be sealed or have I screwed up?
TIA
Johnny

Re: Sealing Porcelain tiles
I have never used sealer from B&Q but I suspect you didn't do the job right. it is not normal to leave the sealer on overnight. Normally it is only left on for a few minutes and not left to dry before removing the excess.
Only way to tell if they are sealed is to try to stain it in a non-obvious area. Drip water onto it, leave for 5 minutes and wipe it away. If it leaves a shadow I would suggest hat they are not sealed correctly.

Re: Sealing Porcelain tiles
google the name of the sealer if you can remember it,if not get yourself upto b and q and check the back of another bottle.....and Grumpy is right ...most sealers you apply then buff up with a lint free cloth.

Re: Sealing Porcelain tiles
Hi,
Thanks for responses. I went into BandQ & had a look at the instructions. You are supposed to leave it on for 20 mins, clean off excess then re-apply. Hopefully I haven't done any damage leaving it on overnight.

Re: Sealing Porcelain tiles
Sometimes there is a protective wax residue on porcelain tiles, did you clean this of before you sealed them as this may have left the sticky film on the tiles that you mentioned.
