Default took daves advice time to act!

things slowing up a little so i seen daves post that it was time to start looking rather than expecting it to come to me so i went to my local tile shops and plumbers merchants and handed new business cards in also went to the printers and ordered 1000 flyers to do leaflet drops and 6 banners to advertise. So i posted around a 100 flyers yesterday and to my surprise when i got home i had two messages for estimates one a splashback and a on suite bathroom so today i went and and did them and got the splashback to do next week still waiting on the bathroom but it just shows if we get out there and look its not all doom and gloom thanks dave!

I do leaflet drops advertising my tile an floor cleaning side of my buisness, put 50 leaflets out yesterday afternoon on the way home and got a few calls, just cleaned a conservatory floor, going to look at a bathroom at 2pm that needs grout recolouring. And these came from leaflets, if your quite advertise these things as well as tilling, they are really good for the cash flow plus you do get tiling jobs through them, surprising what you can do with a good cleaner and a bit of new silicon, some job i get more for cleaning the tiles than i would of got fixing them.

Crackin post this, I too have decided to take daves advice and do alot more in the way of advertising. I'm a newbie and have questioned a hundred times if i'm doing the right by coming into this business at a time like this when there are more established tilers out there strugglin as well but it's something i really want and it's all to easy to make excuses so i'm steppin up my game and as dave said make something happen

hi sorry to but in but can i just make a point that we window cleaners have learnt all to well. people tend to get so much junk mail through the door these days its too easy to just throw leaflets away before even looking to see what is writen on them. I do it my self.

when i started up my window cleaning business my wife and i spent a whole Saturday dropping leaflets in an area must of dropped over a thousand between us dawn till dusk. I got about 3 calls.

after some advise I did the same again but instead of dropping flyer's i knocked every door.

''Hello there, I'm sorry to bother you but I'm a local window cleaning expanding my round and wondered if its something that will interest you''?

yes you will feel like a nob for a few but once a couple say ''mmm year how much will it cost me?'' you start to feel like its all worth it.

because your there on there door step you can give an on the spot quote and get them thinking about retailing that ugly splash back or re grouting the moldy bathroom that they often wonder about but think would cost them to much.

    i suggest something like this-

''hello I'm a local tiler I don't only do whole re tiles but also do re grouting, fix broken tiles, add mosaic boarders to brighten your existing bathroom... are there any jobs like this you would like an on the spot quote for?

I think this is a much more productive method of selling yourself.

when i do this rather than drop flyer's i tend to pick up a job from one in every 10 houses. its worth a try!

oh and its important to say your local even if your not that local. its amazing how many people only trust local trades men! and dont only go for the huge houses with big fancy cars. chances are if there loaded they wont think twice about picking up a yellow pages and phoning a tiler as soon as they need one. guys who work a lot and have little spare time are more likely not to want to D.I.T. (Do It Themselves).

You'll do well if you keep at it like that. Let us know how many enquiries in total come from those 1000 leaflets. And perhaps how many quotes turn into jobs?

    All the best.

Well done for getting out there and pounding the streets.

I agree with DCS that sometimes flyers can get picked up and put in the bin before they are even read, so it is worth thinking about when you leaflet drop. If you spend time dropping flyers during a week day then there is a good chance that when the home owner comes back from work, they will pick up the post with one hand and grab all the flyers that have arrived during the day with the other and bin them, so try dropping leaflets at times when junk mail does not come through the door, maybe on a Sunday as there is no post delivered and the home owners have more time on their hands to read what you have put through.

It is also a good idea to make your flyers eye-catching so if there are two on the mat the owner may choose to read one on the way to the bin, make it yours they read and then keep to one side.

Use photographs as much as possible, a good before and after photo, stating from this to this for only ££££. Show customers how much better it looks, don't leave it to their imagination. Sometimes giving them a rough idea of how much it could cost can be a benefit as a number of people have the perception that it is going to cost the earth especially if they have had certain companies quoting that are named after a sea mammal. But sometimes it can be best to leave the price off and tempt them with the image to get your foot in the door.

Quality professional flyers do not cost the earth and give a better image.

There is no harm in trying. Good luck

And don’t forget when you get the opportunity to quote turn up on time, look professional (a t-shirt or jumper with your company name on does not cost much and looks really professional. Be polite and friendly and confident.
