I finished this on Xmas eve. It was a long struggle to get done on time (just on time!).
The builders had left a 25mm differential between the kitchen floor and the orangery floor. They helpfully poured in 15mm of rubbish quality self-leveller which took 5 days to (nearly) dry out. I then made the difference by bonding 6mm insulation boards using BAL green screed adhesive, installing heat mats and then levelling using Tilemaster Levelflex (wonderful stuff btw) and a spikey roller.
Because the customer took my advice and was willing to pay for proper prep / correctional work before I began, the job went well for me and he got a floor he's really happy with!
I forgot my camera on the day, but was invited back to take some photos - so here they are....
I love working with stone, far more satisfying I think.
Cheers guys! The actual fixing took 2 unhurried days listening to good music.
Grouted the next - without sealing (thanks Dave!) Marble is so glossy you can't help but keep it clean.
The prep including the ufh took 3 days - but a day of that was down to the builders cock up.
What I really learnt from this particular job is that good prep work really IS everything, and makes life so much easier!

Yes Dave ya right. and very very nice work Grace's Dad. what would the low level foto have looked like if you had thought, (sod it i'll get round it some how attitude) New tilers starting up should instill these bold words on their brain........
GD the job looks absolutely fabulous! I am very envious and puts my kitchen floor to shame...
Can I ask a question - how easy is it to scratch tiles like that? Looking at the pics, my concern is that the owners have those lovely bar stools, but the stools have metal bases? I hope the bases are padded or the stools fixed because otherwise they might contribute a little bit of damage to the tiles if they're not hardwearing enough.
Maybe it's not an issue and tiles like that are supremely hardwearing, but I just know, the second I put tiles like that anywhere in my house, they're bound to get scratched even if I'm careful with them....

Any views?
Thanks everyone for your kind words. My head can barely fit through the door now and it was already pretty big!
As for scratching, yes marble does scratch but this particular marble is surprisingly hard. Still, the customer has stuck felt pads to the bottom of all the furniture. They have no kids either which will definitely help keep the floor looking well!
Plus there are always people like Tiling Logistics who can re-furb and polish marble back to new....
