Tiling on old adhesive
I've just removed some tiles from bathroom wall and plasterboard intact but most of the adhesive still on it. Am I right in saying you shouldnt tile on top of old adhesive even if you sand it down. If so whats the best thing to do-get the old adhesive off or just replace the pasterboard.

Re: Tiling on old adhesive
Seems to be fixed to stud but there is something like an egg shell box inbetween the wood posts so not sure if I should take plasterboard off as may make more of a mess.

Re: Tiling on old adhesive
That is a paramount wall.....a lot harder work.....had a feeling you would say that it was that type..lol lol...
Try to remove as much old adhesive as you can without ripping the board to bits....as long as the face of the board is intact you can go over old adhesive ... prime first....you might need a slightly deeper trowel...
The only time it would be an issue is if it makes the weight too much for the wall....
you could also overboard...but don't know if that would be poss without seeing it...

Re: Tiling on old adhesive
When you say a lot harder work, what is involved just in case I have to replace the boards.

Re: Tiling on old adhesive
Paramount is 2 skins of plasterboard with the eggbox effect inside like you say.....
You can remove the outer skin then frame the inside so that you can re-board...you have to careful not to damage both sides though when taking it down.....but it can be done...you could even re-board with hardi backer or similar...but plaster board is easier...

Re: Tiling on old adhesive
I would consider cleaning off as much as possible......sanding etc. Then overboard with hardibacker. It will be ok to glue and screw (plug wall first) into this type of wall.
I have the same walls in my place...........and it is a nightmare to try and strip of one side and re-board
