    Default travertine

One of my customers has claimed that the travetine tiles I laid about 5 weeks ago have marks on them, these tiles are not the polished type and were bought cheap from china, he says that they still have grout on them and dont seem to be smooth, I am going to see them but just wndered if this is a typical problem, I did thourally clean them and then sealed them.

Did you apply too much sealer? I recently did a large travvy job and I used my car buffer with a fine scotchbrite pad on it and they buffed up to a brillant shine. Could be worth a try.

go have a look mate, that way you can see for yourself, and will be able to inspect the surface of the tile,to see if as Doug suggested there is dust ingress.
you are sure you took all the grout of the face of the tiles before you sealed them? i know that question will sound silly, but i have seen it happen before

this is a common problem with cheap trav, if you are sure you cleaned and sealed well what it might be is the filler looking a diferent colour to the tile body as it does not absorb sealer in the same way creating a patchy look when you look across the floor it is not a fault just the nature of the tile but can sometimes look like grout on the tile.

    hope this helps

the chances are that what the customer is looking at as grout is actually the filler, it hasn't been cleaned off properly, you could use a stanley blade and gently scrape the excess off. i've done this with cheap travertine and it cleans them up nicely..Mark.
