Wink Still not sure how to tell if tile is waxed

Thanks everyone for the information so far in my previous thresd, however not sure that the question has been answered,- How do you tell if the tile has a wax coat? I have placed water on the tile and it appears to soak in, does this mean it is not waxed?

I have 60 sq m of polished porcelain tile to seal so want the easiest clean that I can have with the shortest time between cleaning and sealing.

I realise that if the tiles are waxed then clean will be more difficult.

If it is waxed what will clean it best?

If it is not waxed should I still clean so that the sealer does not seal in general dust and grim? I will be sealing each tile before they are laid so in the case of no wax but just general dust what is the best cleaner/sealer combination in terms of time interval between cleaning and sealing?

From the posts so far it would appear that I need a polished porcelain impregnator sealer and that Lithoin is recommended, getting the BAL adhesive from Topps and they have offered a Fila impregnator, anyone any opinion on this make?

never used it (fila) mal, but you're not tied to getting your impregnator from topps are you? To be blunt, if I'd posted the question and replies were in favour of lithofin, I'd get lithofin!

Mal...i haven't come across these tiles with wax on yet.......so can't comment on what you have...i would have thought though that the temp wax would dull the tiles if they are polished porcelain....so if they have a mirror type shine then i would presume they have no wax coating on them.....

Lets see if anybody that has used/fixed them replies to this thread.......

I've never come across waxed tiles actually, so I wouldn't know. So logically, what Dave said.

we have some pre-sealed polished porcelain which come with a wax film on(DULL IN COLOUR UNTILL POLISHED OFF) for protection when in transit this we are told by the manufacturer is easily cleaned off (they lied) but said wax off is the product to use and for maintenance to use f z ceramic clean (?)
    both products are lithofin.

Hi Mal, not too sure about your wax problem, but it would appear that they are unwaxed, try impregnating a bit of one of the tiles.

I have used Fila products over the years with no complaint. I generally use HG products or Lithofin, I find that there is not too much difference between the companies, but the tile shops only stock a few of the most popular products of the ranges.

Try looking on the companies websites this should give you plenty of information http://www.hagesan.co.uk www.extensive.co.uk www.filachim.com
    hope this helps
