what thickness of ply?
got three jobs coming up that will require me to put ply up,and just double checking which thickness of ply would be needed? 2 of the jobs require me to remove broken tiles from a whole shower wall,as they have cracked from top to bottom-im removing all tiles and putting ply up to hopefully prevent any further cracking.
The other is a kitchen floor that has existing vinyal down, which sits on top of floor boards, so ply will need to go down on top.
Normally i get a joiner mate to come in and do it, but with money being tight and having seen that its not exactly rocket science to do it, im going to give it a bash myself.

re: what thickness of ply?
well don't put it on a wall use plasterboard or tile-board on the floor take the vinyl tiles up so you can screw the floorboards to the joists then screw down 18mm ply but don't forget to seal the edges and back first personally i prefer to use 10mm tile-board on the floor try this how to guide it may help :Pete

re: what thickness of ply?
try using hardi-backer board 6mm on floor saves height and 12mm on walls stronger for fixing to and better weight to wall ratio

re: what thickness of ply?
Don't get me wrong I'm not having a go but I personally wouldn't go less than 12m/m for a floor.

re: what thickness of ply?
you are best using the normal plasterboard adhesive doesn't stick as well to the moisture resistant board The green one lol why do you guys like using ply the only thing i find it good for is structural uses if its on walls i try to overboard it :Pete

re: what thickness of ply?
I spoke to the nomoreply guy recently and quizzed him over their 6mm board before I used it on a kitchen floor. I asked how can it be as strong as 18mm ply and he said by itself it's not, but when used with their glue and screws it is.

probably 'cos my old master did Pete, and as an awestruck youngster his word was gospel! I still think he was the best and tidiest tradesman I've had the pleasure to work with. But times change and I'm slowly dragging myself (and hopefully a few others!) into the 19th century.(lol)

They have SAID that before but as yet they have provided no documentation backing up the statement!
