Floor or wall first??
Probably apparent from the title!! I'm going to be tiling both the floor and the wall in a room where the wall tiling will meet the floor. Is it best to tile the wall or floor first.....my concencus would be to do the wall first but please correct me if I'm wrong!! Cheers.

Re: Floor or wall first??
if you do floor first, not that it matters, but be sure to cover it well before doing walls, I use card on a roll it doesn't scratch floor tiles or grout and afterwards just roll it up and bin it!

Re: Floor or wall first??
My personal preference is normally the floor first.
The finish you will get when the floor tiles meet the wall tiles will be better, and then you just run a silicon seal along the bottom.

Once you have siliconed..you can't tell which way it is done.......so either way is OK...
It's just a preference thing IMO....

Re: Floor or wall first??
if floor and wall tiles are running through together though it's best to do floor first so that your wall tiles on all four sides can marry up with your floor tiles imo

Re: Floor or wall first??
either way is ok. however for me I will always start with the floor layout first (get the right layout that looks good) then hit the wall second. Just make sure the grout lines meet if you are using the same tiles for the floor as the walls.

Re: Floor or wall first??
Any i've done i've started with the walls incase i have any wee accidents dropping tiles or addy on the newly laid floor.(not that this happens but it only takes once)
But if i need to match the walls and floors i do the floor 1st.
Have i just contradicted myself their?

Re: Floor or wall first??
Exactly what i do usually, plus cutting wall tile to the floor tile will cover any expansion gap required...

Is it 'cos you can hide perimeter joint under the wall tiles?

I do exactly the same other wise floor will be full of dirt and addy, and another reason less chance of damage to the floor, only takes a dropped tile for disaster.

After laying floor tiles first, your floor should be nice and level to give a perfect base to lay the wall tiles on.
How many floor substrates do you know which are completely level, plus I find that it gives a better seal for water ingress.
As said before, it's more of a personal thing more than anything else, but through experiance I have settled on this method.

Re: Floor or wall first??
to be honest, it all depends what mood I'm in, if I feel like doing walls first I will, and vice versa!, if matching up isn't an issue, I've not really found any outweighing advantages either way!

Re: Floor or wall first??
What do you guys do if there are already tiles or lino on the floor, (Bathroomboy graham31),
does that mean that the original floor will get damaged, care and attention to the clients property is paramount to me, so floor will be covered, work tops in kitchen would be covered and also stairs are covered if I'm working in a bathroom upstairs.
Not having a go at anyone, but you have to be carefull doing what we do, mind fingers, hands, backs and knees.
Be good, be lucky............

Re: Floor or wall first??
Floor first for me, always been that way, and it works fine for me.
Either way, it's the end result that matters, not how we get there.

Mr tile55 that wasn't the question the original post was opinion asking walls or floor 1st.
But to answer yours if their tiles or vinyl or any other property of the client that could possibly get damaged then it's moved or cover up and OBVIOUSLEY care and attention is paramount. So far nothing has been damaged so must be doing something right.
