Hi all
My local B&Q are stopping stocking 12mm WBP ply...can't believe it even the guy who cuts the boards down in size said he was shocked as its what hes asked most to cut...means i might have to pay double for smaller size boards now.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to go to a trade outlet anyway. My local Build Center has an integral timber center and they will cut ply to any size you want. There is a cutting fee but it's more convenient than doing it yourself.

Seems strange. You sure its not just out of stock?
As mike says there are other dedicated builders merchants that stock it.
Perhaps B&Q are building another boat and need stock?

I thought it was strange also but apparently not just my store...i've tried the builders merchants before in my area they all sell it but don't cut it...i found one other place somerset panel centre who wanted £35 per 8x4 cut into 3. £10 more per sheet than B&Q.
Well it would seem strange that B&Q would actually stock anything useful, as opposed to something that just earns them a high turnover for the space it takes up.
What do you expect from a shed that sells warped tiles and can't understand why customers complain about them? It's impossible to get anything like 100% contact on the larger tiles without back buttering each affected tile.
The Plymouth store repackage loose tiles into boxes, thus mixing up batches in the same boxes. This leads to inconsistency within each box with respect to size, shade, colours etc. If they didn't do this we might have a fighting chance of doing a half decent job, as tiles could be inspected and sorted by box, ie the quality of the first tile may determine that of the box.
So it comes of no suprise to me that B&Q, who peddles a lot of gear that is not fit for purpose, pulls product that we actually need.
My advice is to go to your local Travis Perkins store and open an account with them. At the moment their brief is just to get the turnover in without worrying too much about margins, so good prices are there for the taking. Speak nicely to the branch manager and away you go.
B&Q don't deserve our business IMO

b and spew have put there ply prices up here in edinburgh as from last week by 5 quid a sheet then stuck a 20 percent of sticker next to them,hahaha![]()
