Hi All,
I need advise on the best way to remove a broken floor tile that has UFH .It was put down wihout a self leveling compound and i was wondering what would be the best course of action to remove IT,hopefully without breaking the UFH.
Hi Rob welcome to the forums. Would be nice to introduce yourself in the New Members Section of the forum. Tell us a bit about your self so we can get to know you.
I kind of depends on the type and size of tile (stone, porcelain or ceramic), but my advise would be to gently tap it with a hammer until it breaks into many small fragments. Then gently prise the fragments up with scraper. Just be very careful and aware of the wires.
Use a chisel and hammer to carefully remove old adhesive from between the wires on the substrate prior to replacing the tile.

I don't know what equipment you have but i would do the following. I would set my Makita saw to the exact depth of the tile. Then cut all the grout lines around the tile. Run the saw through the centre diagonally both ways so I had the tile in four pieces then i would try to gently remove a piece at a time if that didn't work I would keep cutting until i could eventually start to prise the pieces out.
If you havn't got a saw then you will still need to follow the above process by either removing the grout with a rake or a Fein machine. Then try and break the tile diagonally using a chisel and hammer. In either case the key is to remove the grout and work slowly taking your time. There are no guarantees but it usually works. Good Luck
