    Default Tiling a Shower

    Hi,

I am removing old tiles from a shower cubicle for a relative and then retiling. Removing the old tiles will probably make a mess as the walls sound hollow so may have to reboard. Is their a particular board I should use for shower walls and will I need to use a tanking system on the boards or are the tiles and waterproof grout sufficent to keep the water out. Sorry to ask such a basic question but I've never tiled a shower before and want to make sure I get it right or will never hear the end of it!

It is usually quicker just to pull it all out and re-board with 12.5mm plaster board...then tank(waterproof) the boards with a membrane....using a membrane is alot quicker and provides a 100% watertight wall substrate...

Try knocking the old tiles off first..they might just fall off..then just tank the walls you have after prepping them......take the tiles off and see what happens first..
