    Default Repairing Ceramic Tiles

    Hi

I have two ceramic tiled floors both of which have damages to them. One is a bathroom floor with a running crack in it that has been there for a long time.

Is there any way of repairing them so that I don't have to retile the whole floor? They are both white floors.

    Thanks

can you contact previous owners to see where tiles came from, there's no guarantee that you could get the same tile even with this info tho' ie batch No's etc, but if you can't live with them (I couldn't) it might be worth a try,

manufacturer's name will be on back of tile if you can see it for addy (and you shouldn't be able to if 100% contact has been achieved, but why has it cracked?)

Something was dropped on a couple of the tiles, looks like I might have to retile.

    Thanks for your replies.

Have you had a look under the bath, behind the panel, there may me a box hidden underneath.

Well the bath panel is another problem.
That has been tiled over and can't be taken off without breaking the tiles, which means I have a problem changing the bath taps too!!

You're right Mick. Most say made in China or Turkey or Brazil or Argentina or uzbekistan or other far flung, wide tolerance happy country!

It is a little known fact that White (along with black) believe it or not are the hardest colours to match. Nearly every shed and tile shop sell 6" or 150mm white tiles but try matching them!

TRhe good news in your case is you can virtually guarantee that they were inexpensive in most cases and therefore the replacement like for like will also be inexpensive and almost certainly a lot less hassle than running round loads of shops and spending hours trying to find exact matches.

I could repair the cracks with stucco resin if you like but you would be surprised what that would cost

So my advice is get a pro in and get it retiled

    Kev

I've had moderate sucess in repairing chipped tiles with epoxy putty and liquid stone products over the years. It does however take alot of practice to get a good finish, but this maybe an option if you find it hard to get replacement tiles.
