Encaustic tiles

Evening all.
Looking for some pretty specialised help here I think .... has anyone used encaustic tiles before? I have a small floor to do with Fired Earth encaustics and need to seal them. My question is what do I use? I'm sure F.E. would like to sell me an expensive product but I want to know if there is a "tiling specialist" sealant that would be better.
Also any other tips on laying/cutting these tiles (which look just like coloured concrete) would be gratefully recieved.

1st question to ask is are they really encaustic?
A lot are simply printed reproductions.

There is no pattern. The tiles I have been given are just light blue and white. The customer wants them in a chess board pattern.

I would offer the customer a choice in that case. Some sealers will darken the tiles and that may annoy the customer. This test can be done quite easily by simply reversing the tile and applying a little of each sealer to show them the difference. My choice would be Aqua Mix Sealers Choice Gold if they want the tiles to remain exactly the same colour or Aqua Mix Enrich and Seal if they want the colour enhancing and deepening

Fired earths sealants are made by HG i think (or it may be Fila)............I did this job below with fired earth tiles (Wall & Floor) and phoned there tech line to check wot sealant......thats wot the guy told me anyway



Seal before laying, cos if you get any addy on them.........its a sod to get off

It does on those tiles mate and noticeably so but Aqua Mix Ultra Solve does as well! I thought it maybe because of the type of carriers used! Any thoughts?

Just had a read up on fired earth Encaustic tiles......very porous tile...and this type of tile needs great care on installation....

I know who makes fired earth adhesives etc but does anybody know who makes their sealers???

When I phoned there tech line for the job In the pics........the guy told me that there own sealers where made by HG (it was a couple of years ago mind)
