Skeletons in the cupboard...come on we've all got them?
I remember around 20 years ago, late on a Friday, it always is isn't it.. Tiling the MD of a well known NW brewery's house..I was graftin away and I had just got all the floor tile adhesive on the floor ready for first fix, I stood up and dislodged the Lady of the houses' brand new Aquascutum Coat...straight in the adhesive it went (coat was £200 then!) I washed it down and hung it on the line, she came back walked right by it and never noticed......I think...
Remember Epoxy grouted worktops???
A well known Stoke on Trent adhesive manufacturer's rep tried to show us how to mix up 2.5l of the stuff and use it before it went off! That's how we found that Nitromors Paint stripper works very well....
Ever run out of brown grout dye?........Don't use coffee (it goes green)
When one of lads is prattin' about with a nailgun and SHOOTS his equally stupid mate, don't call for an ambulance and say someone's been shot...or an armed response team turns up!
Cheers

Re: Skeletons in the cupboard...come on we've all got them?
I was removing tiles in a bathroom on only my 2nd job. Initially thought it was only one layer of tiles, turned out to be 3, it took forever and customer wanted me to stick to original price and i didn't feel like i could argue. Eventually cleared all the walls, stepped back to admire my work, lowered my arm and hammer caught bottom of bathroom sink and took a chunk out, i was gutted.....still a bit of super glue and looked good as new (ish), customer never noticed....felt karma was on my side!

20 en suites in hotel, put one border on upside down, in every one (just behind the door) on purpose, 'cos the hoteliers treat you as tho' you were something they'd scraped off bottom of their shoe

And then there's dozy site agents and the like..I tiled 92 bathrooms at an hotel/sports complex in Birkenhead and the b*gger insisted on SBA'a being fitted..so we did...I said I was unsure, as they often got broken chipped etc..what did i know? So we fitted 184 Soap Dishes one at bath centre and one at hand height if using the shower...SO, what happened on the first day???
Bloke drops his soap (that's HIS story!) and bends over, stands up again and t*ats his head on the soap dish...which not unsuprisingly breaks..
Next day ...can you remove 92 shower hand high SBA's please ..
Actually, thinking about it I went to Cyprus on the back of that repair!
I was busy then...happy daze

Many years ago I had about half a sq m left to grout on this ketchen. I was only just short the right amount of grout powder and wanted to get finished so I added baking flour instead.
It worked really well and I ended up seeing the lass who was the customer for about 6 months and it never discolored..... Result!
PS, yes she was proper fit

Re: Skeletons in the cupboard...come on we've all got them?
I must have a guilt chip in me.
I was once cutting aquapanel in a bathroom to use behind the bath. There wasn't a lot of space and after one cut I accidently knocked the customer's basin with the hand saw, and put a small chip in it.
I showed it the customer, the chances are that he would never have noticed, but I felt guilty about it. He didnt' seem too bothered. I changed his basin taps FOC for some SH ones I had, I gave him those as well.
A while ago before that, I got mixed up between the rising main cold water and the cold feed from the tank.
I isolated the cold feed from the tank then went about cutting the pipe that I thought was the cold feed from the tank. WRONG! It was the rising main!
I quckly turned on the bath (that ran from the rising main) to stem the flow, chucked a load of dust sheets in front of the pipe, then, calmly went downstairs to turn off the rising main.
