Tiling Injuries
Been tiling for about 6 months now and getting regular work but yesterday had my first injury! Cutting a notch out on the wet cutter and tile just shattered, lump going straight into my thumb very deep, felt like the thing was hanging off .....had to limit the language as customer was in next room! Just wondered if anyone had any good injuries, 1 every 6 months means i'll be falling apart in a few years!

Re: Tiling Injuries
Couple of cuts to the bone on my fingers, loads of small cuts with knives, especially utility knives, and even more cuts on tile edges. Had a couple of tile splinters (when removing old tiles) cause some bleeding too.

If you have gone right through the tendon like I did then it won't heal and will need an operation to re-attach it back again.

Re: Tiling Injuries
Sliced off my arm last week............right at the elbow.
Did it bother me...........just a flesh wound. Carried on and finished the job before slapping on a bandaid

Re: Tiling Injuries
Nothing worse than the odd cut and splinter yet - thankfully.
I skipped wearing my glasses today though while wet cutting - you know like when you watch the blade edge?
I got a chip in my eye but managed to pick it out before it got lost - phew!

Re: Tiling Injuries
accidents will always happen but to minimise the risk of serious injury we must take all precautions possible, i.e not removing guards, eye protection an absolute must, ear defenders et al. Eyes are probably the most important, we could do our job without the odd finger, but blind?

Re: Tiling Injuries
I tend to hurt myself at least once a month, most recent (a fortnight ago)i had to have the back of my index finger glued together due to a sharp tile.
In the past (serious ones only)have run a hacksaw though the tip of my thumb(vertically)almost went to the depth of my thumbnail.
Once slashed though the bit betwenn my index finger and my thumb with a stanley knife while cutting mosaic.
Another time ,sliced right through my thumb with a piece of tile that got stuck under the breaker arm of my rubi.
Also had a piece of glaze stick in my eyeball, which required a trip to hospital to remove.
And last but not least,i once accidently slashed my wrist while making a hooked shaped notch around a toilet, needed an ambulance for that one as i hit an artery and almost bled to death.
Other than them i think i'm doing okay.

Re: Tiling Injuries
Buy GOOD glasses - UVEX or INFIELD etc.
Goggles are utter pish and steam up and are uncomfy.
Good glasses are comfortable, anti mist and pop up on your head when not in use. And some actually look pretty cool now too!
