Default Porcelain tiles onto plywood boxing

Hi, first post here, done plenty of straightforward ceramic tiling to walls and porcelain floortiles onto a concrete floor - all without problems. Just wanted to get some advice from you pros before starting my latest challenge...

In my bathroom I've constructed a false wall/ boxing which covers a concealed cistern behind a back to wall WC, hides all the pipework, and also supports a wall mounted basin. Size is 990mm x 2140mm wide x 240 deep. It's extremely solid and faced in 9mm exterior grade ply srewed to battens every 300mm. The whole thing has been in place for a year now while I procrastinated about how best to tile it. The side of the bath has been boxed in the same way.

The tiles are 500 x 150 porcelain tiles to be laid in a brick bond. They are 10mm thick and fairly heavy.

My local supplier recommended BAL Mosaic Fix would be best to resist any moisture and would be flexible enough for the job. I can't really see any of it except the immediate few inches round the top of the basin getting too wet.

So my question is, should this do the job fine and will the weight of the tiles be ok? I have read a lot about using tilebacker board and Wediboard etc, but it's not a wetroom so I don't see it getting too wet...

    Your thoughts/advice please?

You could also use a thin backer board....this will allow more weight to be hung....

Thanks guys, I think you told me what I just needed to hear. Ply may have been ok, but I couldn't face having to rip it all out and start again.

Going to plasterboard over the front, replace the bath panel with plaster board too, then use aquapanel etc for the horizontal surfaces before tiling over.
