Discuss Quick question. in the Tiling Forum at TilersForums; have just taken the old tiles off the wall and scraped all the old addy off the walls, im down to the grey dusty plaster now, should i prime this ...

    have just taken the old tiles off the wall and scraped all the old addy off the walls, im down to the grey dusty plaster now, should i prime this before tiling on it or it or not? ovbiously im guna dust off the dust first. also the bath has been boxed in with ply and the floor plyed out should i prime these also? cheers

    Priming will keep any dust locked in. What type/size of tiles are you fixing?

    if you have a plaster substrate, you will need to ensure that the tiles/adhesive/grout do not exceed the safe weight limit of the wall, for plaster this is 20kg/m2. I would suggest that you weigh your tiles and work out how heavy they are before you proceed. If the weight is ok, and if the tiles are porcelain then I would use a bagged adhesive, not ready mixed. It is then essential to prime your walls with an acrylic primer to avoid possible chemical reaction problems.

    was guna use granfix super for the walls, but not if porcelain, still be using granfix tho,
