    Default overhead tile fixing

My bathroom has a recess window which requires a tile 400 x 200 fixing overhead, how can I do this safely without the fear of it falling in the future and spoiling my wifes good looks or my distinguished craggy features.

Make a pair of wood battens to fit and a board cut to size! Fix the tile or tiles and put the board over them and insert the battens to prevent the board moving whilst the tiles set

There are 2 of 80 x 200 to fix either side but I can lock these into the wall, it's just the central free hanging one that I worry about

I wedged a batton in underneath to support tiles over the window opening recently. It worked a treat.

Thanks all for the advice, I am using Bal Blue Star adhesive, can I be confident that this tile will resist gravity once adhered?

What material is the tile mate, ceramic, porcelain etc, a cement based adhesive is a safer bet due to the size of your tile such as PCI nanolight or Bal gold star. And whats the substrate like, plaster, cement board etc.

    It's ceramic tile to plaster
As I am of an engineering background I am considering drilling 2 small holes, countersinking and screwing as well as adhesive, then filling the two small holes which should not show as the tile is mat white with a light scored textured surface. Would this be ok

With decent adhesive, you shouldn't need to mechanically fix that size/weight of tile.
