| cutting 100mm glass tiles | | What is the best way to cut theses 6-7mm thick tiles. I have been scoring with new scorer and snapping and cut edge is ok but not great. Does anyone have any tips. Would you use a wet cutter for instance (definitely wity safety glasses........)?
many thanks. | | |

| Re: cutting 100mm glass tiles | | Scribe and snap is prbably the best option. Do one clean scribe, sometimes the mark you've made is hardly visible but with the one scribe only it will leave a neater cut.
If you're currently only scribing them once and snapping them and it's still leaving a bit of a rough edge then maybe that's the tile type in general, and that's how it works. You can use a rubbing stone/block to lightly tidy it up if that's the case. I wouldn't think a wet cutter would make it neater though, if it's the glass type tiles I'm thinking of. | Dan |

| Re: cutting 100mm glass tiles | | Thanks, Dan. I'll try the 'once only' method. Would you also scribe the back or is that a waste of time as it's coated? Cheers. | | |

| Re: cutting 100mm glass tiles | | If you scribe more than once (either on the front or front and back) you're creating too many score lines for the 'crack' to appear as one and neat. If you're scoring 3 or 4 times on the front, what's happening is the crack is starting on one score and jumping to and from the others down the tile. So although you can't always see lots of score lines, when you break you'll see the effects of it with a really poor edge.
Try score once and clock the snap method It's tough on some of the smaller tiles, but it's still possible. | Dan |

| Re: cutting 100mm glass tiles | | cheers Dave, I'm still having problems getting a clean cut so doing the unseen edges with a standard wet wheel cutter and it's fine. Where did you get the cvg blade and what diameter is it please, I can't see it online anywhere?
Thanks. | | |

| Re: cutting 100mm glass tiles | | Tx for all the input everybody. I can't find if Rubi do a 115m blade. One helpful tool guy recommended a basic angle grinder blade which would be less aggressive than the normal diamond tipped blade( and woud cost much less, I only have about 20 tiles to cut to this finish quality). The problem is that the blade chips away and doesn't leave a clean edge, whereas he says a slower less aggresive cut would be smoother, if a bit slow. Any views on this ? | | |
