wrong size trim?
i've just had my kitchen re-tiled and for some reason the trim on all the wall tiles over-hangs the tiles by about a centimetre...
i thought tile trims were supposed to be flush with the tiles, but my tiler was making up a hundred excuses as to why it wasn't level...
am i right in thinking the trim shouldn't stick out further from the wall than the tiles??
any advice would be appreciated!!

Re: wrong size trim?
i dont fit trims dead flush , what about a cut tile?? a very slight overhang no more than 1mm but the ops are way too much..

Re: wrong size trim?
Well, yeah the tile sits in the trim, so yeah you have a over hang onto the tile, but it's only a mill or so max init.

Re: wrong size trim?
Hi chaps , chapesses
Worst for me so far....
Bevelled edge with brickbond splash back, created an "overhang",
and was about 3>4mm to tuck the cut edge centre of the tile in.
Been using the flat trims lately as opposed to the quadrant...much better in all aspects....anyone else use these ?...or am I behind times ?

Re: wrong size trim?
hi, sounds like he has used the wrong size trim!! (or installed it wrong) you should be using about a 8-10mm trim for a 8mm tile. There is no way the trim would be able to stick out any further than a mm or two if it has been installed correctly!!
Get them back to fix it I say!

Re: wrong size trim?
sorry guys if I gave the impression it was my job.....didnt realise my reply read like that...till I read it back. ! doh
I wouldnt let that happen..!
...whoever has obviously used the wrong trim.....maybe only had one size in the van ? and wanted to get off the job ?
I was trying to say that sometimes I have found a bit of overhang from using bevelled tiles brick bond fixed.

Re: wrong size trim?
I won a qoute yesterday based soley on the fact that the other tiler that had qouted had tried to convince the customer to only have upright trims on a half height splashback, with no trims on the tops of the tiles upto and into the window, the customer said that the tiler had said that a three way cut would look too cluttered, the customer immediatley thought that the tiler couldnt do the three way cut, despite the tiler trying to blag it.
The customer said my qoute was more expensive but he had no confidence in the other guy.

Re: wrong size trim?
no sorry , tiles are finished flush with tile trims , no 1 mm overhang . sorry guys not good enough , or is it just me ?. always if in doubt go a litt le thicker with the trim and build out so that the tiles finished flush. nothing worse than tiles overhanging trim even if it is only a mm.

unless i've misread mate, the trim is overhanging the tiles, not the tiles overhanging the trim

Re: wrong size trim?
there are a lot of these brick shape tiles that you simply cannot trim with out overhang, and yes it looks crap.
the only way to do them is MITRE,and charge plenty for it.

Yes you are right Oldgit. One way to reduce the problem if you know you have to trim is to set out so you end up with a 1/4 3/4 cut where the trim is going to be. Doesn't eliminate the problem but it reduces it greatly.

also always try to have whole tile,at least on the bottom sill even if you have to build it up with plaster board etc.

so true the biggest mistake with these tiles is to start whole and half.
