tile on tile
evening folks.
never tiled onto existing tile before so have a few queries if i may.
the existing tiles are very sound just old . i realise you have to clean the tile to get rid of dirt , grease etc. what would be best to do this. maybe sugar soap?/
also when sanding the glaze off the tile how exact do you have to be. is it just quick going over with sand paper or do you really have to work on it.
thanks in advance

Re: tile on tile
What size and type of tile are you intending to put on top, Dom?
What substrate are the existing tiles attached to?
As well as the cleaning and prepping issues, you are likely to be close to maximum weight that the substrate will hold. Are you sure that you don't want to make a proper job and rip them all off? You'll be happier with the results in the long run.

Re: tile on tile
i would be happier mate to rip them off but its a commercial job me and a friend have got. good job too.
the tiles are budget 150x150 light weight fellas ,similar to those we are laying over.
the background is plaster board not plastered so we should be well in weight limit .

Fair enough, I understand.
Take a look at this post, Tile On Tile, it should answer your questions.
Good luck.

Re: tile on tile
I have used BAL Mosaic-fix fo all manner of tiles. It keys brilliantly to glazed tiles (as long as they are clean and grease-free).
