first job i have enjoyed

been on this tiling job for 2 weeks, did a tiling course about a year ago, still in full time employment and havent had the bottle or speed to pack it in and start up on my own yet. joined up with a newly trained plumber from work and am actually enjoying it.....APART FROM THE FACT THAT I FILLED THE WALL AND FORGOT TO PUT THE BORDER ON????? who else on the forum has made the same stupid mistake??? anyway whipped them off, cleaned them off and carried on. uploaded some photos AT LAST just after your opinions really. really pleased with how things have gone so far, the only problem i can see, is the window wall is not very straight at the corners would it be possible to use a 10mm round trowel to make up for the variation?

Yes, I've done it more than once, I write on the walls for borders and any other pattern/tile thats required. I have a brain like a sieve nowadays.

yes mate. they have a 50% off offer at the moment, so got a really good deal. the borders are a bit fiddly though i found. speed is getting slightly better though but still have a bit of a problem deciding where to start, but as the plumber was with me took the toilet out and started one row up from the floor and my next step is to follow them round with a batten above the bath, is this how you work

I don't use battens ian....but whilst you are learning they will help you...

have you got any sealer for the borders...?....could do with some especially in the shower/bath area...

got some lithofin stain stop, one coat before grouting and one after, applied with a lint free cloth, is this correct,

that will do.....nice product..... light coats so not to seal the holes on the border....i would normally just seal after grouting ...but you have to make sure you don't leave the grout to long on those borders or it is harder to get off.....so put a light coat of sealer on before ian....leave to dwell for 10 mins then wipe excess off..........leave to dry before grouting.....deffo a light coat though , so as not to seal those little voids in them..that the grout clings to...

tiled my first bathroom 27 years ago connor, and I'm still enjoying it,the cock ups lol do still happen but not as frequently!

I tile down from the datum for one row....then working left and right from the bottom tile up to the datum........much quicker....

I rub up render left handed, and wash grout off left handed,occasionally do other things left handed too (but that's not for this site)

"A ciotoigh " is what we call em here,I allway's try work above when on a high wall with a lhr .we usually cross paths somewhere in the middle so someone gets plaster or water on the head.
