3 mm over a 2 m span, and a spirit level allthough i dont think this is what you really want to know, level and flat are 2 different things

To assess the flatness of a floor you must get yourself a large sraight edge and place it all over the floor in different directions and this will tell you if you have any bumps or valleys the max deviance is 3mm over a 2m span.

If I suspect there is a big difference in the floor level I setup my rotary laserlevel make a mark on a stick then you can use this to see if there is a big dip in the floor or raised area easypeesy lemon squeasy .easy to show customer as well saves them having to get down and dirty on there little knees .

british starndard is + or - 3mm over a 2m straight edge but this is far to much if you are laying 600x600 as sst you could put a datam round and check with a gauge stick this was common practice on big jobs it used to be done by the main contractor so everyone worked to the datum
