    Default Which Travertine?

After doing me homework with the rest of the wetroom project I am about to get cracking on I could do with a few pointers in the right direction before I buy the clasic travertine.

I have got quotes from a few places now homesinstone.co.uk have it for £15 a square metre, Topps tiles charge £3.99 a tile which works out around the same price and then places like CTD are asking 54 quid a metre.

Question is do you get what you pay for and is it worth spending the extra? It seems with it all beeen natural it is all prone to be of different quality anyway or is it graded somehow from cheap industrial grade to top grade.

Any Trav experts out there help a Trav newbie?

    Thanks Rich.

don`t claim to e an expert but yes the price generally reflects the quality, you definetley get what you pay for, there are many things to look for like consistency of colour, yes i know its a natural product but some times you can get some very grey pieces and then some really nice creamy ones, how much of a honey comb back there is to the tile ie lots of holes could mean a weaker tile if not fitted correctly not as much of a problem for wall be might be a cosideration for the floor, also the amount of `fill` this is a resin used to cover holes in the face of the tile, i`ve heard some people say that they`ve seen some with more fill than stone. if it was my money i`d look at premium trav from topps coming in at about £45 m2 but i am biased. hope this helps.

As you say it all differs and you rarely get what you actually see. In the stores such as topps and ctd they know as much about where it comes from as you, they buy it in crates and they know its travertine because it says so on the side.

Personally - look around for tile shops not sheds that sell stone along side their ceramics or just sell stone these people cant afford to be clueless or sell you crap and you have a come back if you have a problem.

    hope thats some help

Look on the back of the trav and it will give you some idea what the front may have looked like

Mmm! thought as much. Rather than take a chance and order off the net Topps have a crate in at the moment which seems decent quality and they have said I can return any tiles I am not happy with.
So will probably go with them, thanks for the advice.

Anyone had any problems with Topps?

    Thanks Rich.

Just a quickie. Have spoken to Topps tiles and have not been too impressed by their suspicious discounts which they seem to claw back by charging £49.99 for a bag of Bal natural stone adhesive!

Thinking of using internet based www.homesinstone.co.uk as they have been fairly reasonable up to now and the samples they sent seem good quality.

Anyone used them before and have any points good or bad?

    Thanks Rich
