Default Tiling A Bath/shower Surround

I'm tiling a bathtub/shower surround in marble.
How do you find out the porosity of the marble / does it really matter?
What are the best water & oil sealers?
What is your preferred adhesive?
TIA
Jay

You can check the porosity by droping some drips of water onto one of the tiles.

I use Lithofen Stain Stop on marble tiles, needs to be applied quite thickly, but make sure you wipe of any excess before it goes off. There are other good sealers out there but i haven't really used them.

I always use Granfix adhesives for all jobs.

i agree with varley i use stain stop aswell as for adhesives i tend to use white powder form as this wont bleed through and stain marble
good luck jb1

Is it 'marble' or some other stone. Some are crystal and are very absorbant.

Some stones need to breathe and require a wax/oil based seal. Otherwise they may crack if sealed totally.

If you don't want them to look wet all the time or if the missus drops some hair dye or coloured product (red wine) and you don't mind the stained effect. So yeah it matters.

Most 'sealers' only offer to extended absorbtion time so you can wipe up any spills.

Agree with dh use a white powdered.
