i need to know how to keep my tiles square with this floor i'm laying. can anyone help
ok mate first thing I check if I have that problem 1, are the tiles all the same size cos topps are a pain for that 2,I assume your using spacers if so are they good quality as I bought some from topps and a lot of them had plastic bits on them (werent finished properly) and how are you setting your job out![]()

I think we need a bit more detail mate before we can give you any detailed advice, what are the tiles, type size etc, what pattern are you laying them in, what shape is the room etc.![]()

Also saying hello to the members helps.......welcome from me...

Welcome too...and can we have more info then suggestions will flood in

some people centre the room and some laser it, some use a roofers square and some use a straight edge, me i check with all 4
some tiles, wont name them but big tile shops beginning with t opps lol have tiles in one box that are different sizes so sometimes i lay without spacers if this is the case, easy way to check is to place all tiles on their side and check the height, use odd sizes for the cuts etc
andy
always make sure that u use good quality spacers or packing strips

do it by eye, starting with a full tile from the door that you enter the room from and there you have it,get a second opinion if unsure.![]()

Hello and welcome![]()
"Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes"
ping some lines m8 , you can get a stanley folding square which helps and use 3,4,5 system to check your lines are square![]()

The laser level square projects horizontal and vertical laser chalklines on surfaces
Great for floors, tiles, paneling, wall fixtures, wallpapering, stenciling, wainscoting, finished carpentry, outlet switches, lighting fixtures, wall studs, partitions and much more![]()

I've always found the dot/line on a laser level too thick, tried quite a few but still go back to spirit level and straight edge, but maybe I'm a bit old school!

Straight edges....ping lines....345's..laser levels......all good practise....BUT what do you square them off to start with....setting out is the question ..NOT toys...how do you determine what to square your measurements from...?
the more money you spend on a laser, the better it is!
personally i use the dewalt tilers laser but for day to day the stanley gives you all you need +/- 2mm in 50ft!!!!!!!!!! however £200 ish gets you one of these!!!!!!!
p.s in respose to daves comment, nothing is truly square, so you can start at the doorway and ping a line along the longest wall!

dry lay them firsts - not all but the ones you will see as you enter the room. If they are not square as you walk in it will stick out like a sore thumb. Been there ..... I lasered, measured and chalk lined my room and in the end did it by eye. Some rooms wen't built square.

too true mate, been doing a lot of new builds for wimpey lately and theres not a straight wall in the house, whole lot to be done by eye all the time
