    Default old buildings walls

doing a bathroom in an old tenement flat. I have removed the existing tiles around the bath/shower area, which has left the wall behind exposed. As im sure you are all familiar with, the wall is concrete, but is sort of crumbling away with the effects of ripping off two lots of tiles that were on it. My suggestion is either plasterboard or plywood(to avoid plastering and the delay that it brings) but obviously if i plasterboard it i would need to install a tanking system to waterproof, so my reccomendation to my customer is to ply. Is this everyones reccomendation,or has anyone anything better to suggest?

Ply would really need tanking as well!

Same here I avoid ply. The walls defo cant be patched then, they are crumbling that bad? Almost completed my own bathroom in my time off work lol and that was black mortar, I hate that stuff with a passion. Whenever I come across anything like that I just accept its going to take longer and hack the crap off, scratch coat with waterproofer and sbr then render coat, score as if your plastering and tile away with Bal when dry knowing its there for life. Have used aqua panel onsite too. Only just getting into tanking systems myself as I dont do that much tiling, onsite I just oversee our tilers who know more than me by far :-) Many do use water resistant plaster board and get away with it, I personally dont like doing it becasue any leak in the future via the grout will cause a pain in the ass repair.

Knauf Drywall - Aquapanel - Drywall for Wet Areas

PS was browsing the forum and seen this "Mira Tanking Kit" I'll be getting that for my wet area ie Shower above bath :-)

Cheers G will do, seen the lads use different tanking systems onsite, but I dont pay that much attention lol too busy chasing the deadlines and getting grief from the clients lol - yep seen a few on the market. I'm just doing a very small shower area for my own personal use. I would normally like I say render and use aqua panel over any stud which has always worked but its nice to try different stuff in it - keeps it all interesting :-) god I remember rendering with asphalt for tanking - how times have changed, some great products out there now :-) I'm slowly getting up to speed
