Uber large tiles!
Hey guys,
I landed on a new job yesterday to see 13 crates of various stone being delivered. This is a big job, the kitchen floor tiles are 700x700x20mm!!! Ive never seen anything this big let alone fit them. Anyone any suggestions for layout and fitting methods?
Also is there an easy way to guarantee total randomness with 4 different sized floor tiles? (Garden room)
The client has spec'd a vertical border in the shower area (MES). This tile has a coral like surface as in it is grooved. Bet it will look nice but do I need to know anything about this type of tile ie cutting, grouting???
Does stone that isnt pitted on the back have to be "back-floated" with adhesive prior to fitting?
Any comments greatly appreciated...
PS, Ill get some pics sorted soon when I buy a new camera

Re: Uber large tiles!
Used said addy and grout loads of times with no probs. Never laid tiles of that size before but watch your back and fingers. Always back buttered stone tile as par usually. Good luck Dave

Re: Uber large tiles!
We are working on 800x400 tiles and not only are they bloody awkward to machine but they are also VERY VERY heavy... Can only get them in a pack of three.

Whats crazy is the company have been sending them down on a regular basis to have 125mm holes drilled into them. Its not the cost of the tiles at £50 each, but the cost of the Postage and Packing to move them about. We are having to crate up each one because one the holes are drilled they become a lot weaker. And we drill them in pairs in case one breaks.
I will be glad when this job ends because its a logistical nightmare!
Anyway to those of you out there dealing with 700x700 and 1200x1200 then you have my utmost sypathy..... We feel your pain too!
