Not 24 hr call out "BUT"
Not a 24 hr call out plumber "BUT" if its local and a bad leak i will go out to them, went out to one tonight at 10.30pm against the wife`s wishes only ten min`s down the road, got there they was really apprieciative that i`d gone out and asked if i wanted a drink or anything as soon as i got through the door, isolated leak which was gushing out of the tap at the the sink in kitchen, they`ve got two so had another one to use until i can get parts to fix it properly, got chatting to the customer as ya do and he`s asked me to give him a quote to rip out and redo one of there many bathrooms, moral of the long winded story sometimes even if you dont want to but if you put that bit of extra effort or go out of your way to be as helpful as you can to customers it sometimes pays dividends, and i was home by 11.20pm

I think if you are sitting at home and OK to drive why not! Often the little jobs lead to bigger jobs or contacts. Work certainly come knocking your door that a fact

Re: Not 24 hr call out "BUT"
I prefer little jobs, did a job on tues remove some handmade tiles around the edge of a bath, remove chipboard, replace with backer board, clean adhesive of tiles (could not of done this without my fein) then re lay took me 4hrs and 1 hr wed to grout etc. I charged £450.00 she had two other tilers look at it and said they wouldnt touch it with handmade tiles...Got a kitchen floor to do, and the other bathroom to tile in jan plus she wants all her carpets cleaned before christmas...luvvly jubbly

Going out of your way to help can go along way with some customers.
If you have nothing else on then why no go have a look and help can lead to bigger things.

Never a truer word said..I did a small job for a client who lived in a well to do cul de sac - didn't charge much as it was local - ended up doing both his bathrooms and kitchen tiling and the bathrooms/ensuites of three of his neighbours..they're more an extended family now and always call if they want more work doing...

Re: Not 24 hr call out "BUT"
I've done little jobs out and around. If they're local and they've taken 5 minutes I've sometimes not charged if it's something stupid.
One client asked me to look at her toilet that was leaking. It turned out that the tap connector that screwed onto the torbeck valve was loose and just needed tightening. No charge.
Another chap asked me for some advice about fitting a towel rail. I lent him a radiator spanner and some PTFE tape to put the tails in the towel rail after telling him how to do it. It now looks like I'll be helping him with his new floor, albeit in a year's time.
There'll be a few that take the mick but on balance you'll get a name for helping people out in their hour of need and people remember that.
One git who gave me the run around a couple of years ago gets no service whatsoever
. After trying to squeeze a date out of me to do some work he finally tells me that he's got someone else to do it, and doesn't have the intelligence to tell me whilst I'm trying to re arrange jobs to fit him in. He phones up a year later telling me that he's got a day of plastering for me if I would like it, making out I should be grateful for the job. I have never had so much pleasure in turning down a job
. When asked if I knew of anyone else who could do it. I decided that I didn't hate anyone that much and said 'Erm, no not offhand'.
Strong is he who knows his weakness

Yes its good to help out in small ways and does often lead to call backs for bigger jobs.Sometimes giving folk a little bit of a dig-out is as much help to ourselves as it is to them.

Spent half a day helping a mate out yesterday but rather have his contacts than his money.
