    Default Ply in shower

Hi all. Just got back from a 2 wk holiday in the caribbean so back to reality!! Been out to a quote where the guy has removed the old tiles from a shower cubicle and he has plywood as the background to fix onto. I wasn't too happy about retiling over ply or maybe it would be ok? What would you guys recommend? Cheers Ross

In my oppinion if its a shower cubicle/area it shoud not be tiled at all if there`s no form of tanking/water proofing i`ve seen so many shower cubicles/area`s fail and have to be ripped out completely including substrate to be tiled on and redone at more expense to the customer but thats my only oppinion and how i do all my shower area jobs.

To honest brian c if its been tiled by a previous tiler/trades person i`ve no idea what addy/products he/she may have used but how many of these bodge it and scarper/or DIY disaster type people read the instructions on the adhesives as to weather its the right one for the job or not or install water proofing/tanking let alone install it properly,i`ve been to fix a shower at a customers house and its the same old same old as soon as you walk in to there bathroon/ensuite the mould smell hits you as you walk in the door i`ve pointed the tell tale sign`s mildue/mould all over the grout and coming through the sealant, the smell, the cracks in the grout lines cos of the substrate behind the tiles is warping/expanding/swelling and pushing the tiles off, this customer has had 3 ensuites installed in 4 years she even told me she had a mushroom growing in the corner between the floor and wall tiles also been asked to go and have a look at another 2 bathrooms with same prob`s i`m no expert and only been tiling for nearly 2 years but most of the bathrooms/ensuites i`ve done have all been the same not because they fancy a tile/colour change some that bad i`ve had to rip out stud walls and redo the full lot

whitebeam i wouldn`t want to eat em,i`ve told customer the same advice but as you can appreciate the amount of times its been done wrongly and the expense they`re a little pead off to say the least it gives us who do care about doing the job right a bad name and get tared with the same brush sometimes until you do the work properly and use the right products correctly.
