Honed Limestone Sealing
Got a job lined up to do a 15m2 bathroom in honed limestone. I was going to seal it twice using lithofin stain stop then fit & grout without further sealing. Would you guys do the same or would you seal once prior to fitting and again after grouting?? Any advice as always much appreciated. Geoff (Tilestiles)

Re: Honed Limestone Sealing
I would first of all do a test before applying any sealers. Secondly if you are going to seal prior to fixing why not use a temporary sealer like BAL and work clean

Re: Honed Limestone Sealing
Hi Kev. Thanks for your reply. What would I be looking for by testing it with the sealing? I have done limestone floors before and was taught to seal prior to fitting. I have heard that it is OK to seal twice before fitting and not to bother afterwards and thats why I asked the question. I was taught to seal prior to fit and then again after fitting. I have a sample tile and I got a bit of dust on it and when I tried to remove it, it just stained the tile and wont come out which is why I think it is important to seal properly prior to fitting

Re: Honed Limestone Sealing
Well depending on the colour of the stone you could darken the stone considerably if you were to just slap two coats of stainstop on.
The second thing is if you have dust on the tiles, will it come off if you sponge it down?
Lets remember that sealer is not "magic in a bottle" you can do more damage applying an incorrect sealer badly than not sealing at all. This is why I advocate always doing a test area. I do test areas regularly even if i have worked on the self same stone before?
