    Default SLATE FLOOR ON A 50mm SAND, CEMENT BED?

    HI JUST BEEN TO SEE A JOB FOR A BUILDER ITS 17m2 FLOOR TO BE TILED WITH 300X300 SLATE, THE PROBLEM IS THE SLAB IS 50mm LOWER THAN ADJOINING FLOOR, THE BUILDER WANTS ME TO LAY THE TILES USING A 50mm BED OF SAND CEMENT AND LIME, IS THIS POSSIBLE IF SO WILL IT EVER DRY ? IF SO WHAT ABOUT SHRINKAGE,WILL THE TILES LOOSE THIER LEVELS OR LIFT? ADVICE PLEASE. THANKS

    screed it up with semi dry sharp sand and cement (3 to 1 ) then lay the slate as useual

    why does he want to use lime only done this once in an old church where you dont have a damp course you could use dry cement over the top of the screed then wet the back of the tiles or use a slurry tap them in with a mallet hope this helps

    Years ago I would have wet bedded, soaking the slate in water and screeding the sand and cement then dusting with neat cement before tapping the wet slate tile into it. Today I'd just screed to the depth and allow it to dry for a week then sort and lay the slate.
