    Default Dye-Sublimation Tiles

Hi has anybody had any dealings with the Dye Sub Tiles, the tiles where you can have your own design, logo, photo printed directly onto the tile or tiles.

I have seen them on the net for hundreds a M2 but think i know the process of how to make them at a fraction of the price.

    Thanks Andy

Hi Dave i've been looking into buying a machine what prints T Shirts and mugs ect but when looking at the spec it prints tiles aswell. It works by sublimation meaning the polymer coating of an item is heated up and the ink releases gasses which go behing the polymer and are then sealed in.

Thats the way i understand it anyway.
The equiptment is fairly cheap to set up but i'm still looking into it so i could be wrog.

    Andy

I have seen then but the average punter won't be interested, maybe a pub or restaurant maybe but usually designed by architects. You'll won't be able to charge much more for laying them so I would stick to what you know Andy.

I made a heat press for this process, and bought some coated tiles.
It uses special inks and paper.
Downside:-- it scratches off and fades in sunlight.

There are a few people coating glass tiles on the back to get around the scratching but it still fades.

A more resistant method is the "digital ceramic transfer" system but you need to fire them onto the tile.
