Developers and there handy men
Had a call from one of my lads the other day saying the bathroom we were supposed to tile had been changed to a wet room. So I went to have a look to see what the score was when I got there it was a shambles part of one of the walls was boarded with plywood and the rest of the wall was plasterboard. The other walls where a mess the old tiles had been hacked of and the old adhesive was still on in parts and in other parts there where big hols back to the brick. The developer was not on the job so I told the lad to tell him that the wood and the plasterboard had to come of and the plaster took back to the brick and the lot replaced with hardy backer. Also the floor was falling away from the drain so that needed sorting and then tanking.
Shortly after I left the lad was on the phone the developer is saying he has spoken to the plasterer and he will get the walls patched up with bonding and there is nothing wrong with tiling on to wood. He had also had a word with the plumber and the floor did not need tanking it just needed neat PVA on it and the falls can be sorted out with the adhesive. He all but called me a conman. My response was to pull the lad of the job and send him to another one. I called the developer and told him that if he wanted any more advice on the job that I know a window cleaner that can help him.
He called me today to say he had done some research and he was wrong. I said Good now tell some one that gives a sh*t.

That used to happen to me when i was roofing. You end up losing a days pay, and the site agent doesn't give a crap because there's no comeback to him!?!

Re: Developers and there handy men
Always the way those developers never fixed a tile before, but know everything there is about the tiling game. I would have said the exact same thing Dean. Well done m8

Re: Developers and there handy men
The trouble is that these people are all to egger to listen to a plasterer or a plumber about the tiling rather than the tiler when the truth of it is they will tell them whatever they want to hearer because they don’t have to do the job and more to the point they don’t have to go back when it all goes t*ts up.

So frustrating. Builders, site agents, privates, they all look at me like Im just being a fussy idiot, when infact I just dont want the tiles to fall off onto someone while they are having a shower.
And while Im here, Im getting REALLY bored of scraping paint from walls. I tell and tell painters and site agents not to, and every site I go on, I have to prep the walls. So unnecessary for both the painters, and myself.

Adam, this just highlights the lack of knowledge about tiling that these people have, they think they know about all trades, and yet constantly prove they know very little about even their own.....I used to work sites but went over to domestic work because I was sick to the back teeth of agents and so called developers knowing nothing about everything...and everything about nothing.....
