Depends on the bath type but it is normal to tile after fitting the bath.

Work your tiles out until you have a decent cut tile to finish on yout bath, batten across at that point and tile your wall. When the tiles are dry put your cuts in over the bath. Once grouted fill the bath to the top with water and run a silicone seal around bath edge. Leave it to dry thorougly b4 letting water out.

By doing this once the silicone is set leaving the water out lets the bath spring back up and creates a tight seal.

I'm with Grumps on this one. I do alot of work with a local plumber and every job he will have the bath installed first and then I will tile onto it.

Install your bath then run some silicone sealant between the bath and the wall smoothing it off with your finger. This will giv you an initial seal. Let it dry overnight then tile onto your bath, you'll be as dry as a digestive!!

As a rule I would agree with everyone else...fit the bath then tile...but (and assuming your doing full height tiling) only if the ceiling is a standard height approx 2.5m. I'm about to tile a bathroom that has a ceiling height of approx 3.5m and it's going to be fully tiled. If I put the bath in first, I'd have real difficulty reaching the ceiling as the bath would be in the way of the ladders/scaffolding...

i agree with you on that one Daveyboy--if i fit my bath first as most have recommended then the tiler would have to stand inside the bath while he tiles the wall which is approx. 2m wide by 2.4m high.

i hope he takes his size 12 steel toe boots off!! haha

i will overcome that ... with lots of sheets protecting my lovely brand new bath.

thanks to you all once again. you've all been a great assistance to me.

The tiler should also use a bath board to protect your asset. He can also stand on this to tile up to the ceiling. he has got no need to be "in " the bath.
