Default Dot n' Dab Disaster

Started a new job this week. Half tile new bathroom in extension, re-floor 2nd bathroom and remove & replace damaged tiles and broken grout in en-suite, which originally looked like minor water damage behind tiles due to breaks in the grout.

Monday started with removing emulsion on plaster in new bathroom

Once that was done - 2 coats of Bal primer. While 2nd coat was drying, decided to take a tile off in en-suite. What a bloody disaster. Customer had had it fitted 12 months ago by some old guy who she said was, at the time partially-retired. After seeing the mess behind the first tile, I can only imagine he's also partially sighted.

He had took the old tiles off but left the old adhesive behind. then PVA'd it all then stuck the new tiles on using Dot & Dab tubbed addy.

Just in case you think that bits of paper stuck to the Dot & Dab on the back of the tile in the pic that is actually the PVA which is just peeling off.

This 4 day job just got a lot bigger. Going to finish the new bathroom off first, so will post more pics of this shambles when I get the rest of the tiles off..............stay tuned !!!

I called it love - the judge called it stalking !!!

Fantastic post Taz.....
Let that be a warning to all you customers. Have you asked your fixer to clarify which method of tiling he is to use on your Bathroom, and is he priming and with what. ????
Although primers, adhesives and grouts can be fit for purpose, this isn't always the case with the fixer.....

Only thing holding these tiles up is the grout. Addy just crumbles in your hand. Had to use Bosch multi-tool to remove grout (couldn't afford feinmaster). After that the tiles just fall away.

Nice job you've got yourself into Taz!! Good post mate, good to see pics. I can't believe there are peeps out who tile like this, obviously a jack of all!! I think most of the time the customers are looking for the cheaper of the quotes and end up getting so called tradesmen like this. The cost of using the correct materials for the job can be off putting for the customer in some cases but if explained they will see you having a very professional approach to the job. Good luck with the work mate

I feel the need, the need for speed!
