Think I have messed up
Hi there,
Firstly i make no claim to be a tiler by trade but have laid many a tiled floor. Have laid best part of a floor today on a floor that has underfloor heating. The problem is I used normal rapid set, did not think for a minute I would need flexible, as it is a screeded floor.
What are the risks here and how high.
I was aware that they need to not turn the heating back on for a good two weeks and have told them that.
Thought I had covere all bases, 2 part flexi on the wooden part, ply boarded etc.
Please be gentle with me, I accept that I deserve any flack inbound!!!!

Re: Think I have messed up
Dave,
It is water pipe under screed, part of the kitchen floor is wooden, that has been plyed and screwed, not by me. That bit does not have UFH and I have used 2 part flex on that bit.
As mentioned I am aware now of what I should have used, but cannot find any cases where a floor has been done with normal adhesive and has failed dramatically.
I have not yet grouted, and have all the edges to cut in.
Steve.

Re: Think I have messed up
Dave,
I used 2 part flex adhesive on the wood Topps own brand.
The rapid set was Topps as well, blue bag 20kg , have used this many times, never had a problem with it.
My concern is the adhesive on the screeded part failing because of the UFH.
Thank you so far for your input.
Steve.

Re: Think I have messed up
i have a feeling they turned it on low to dry out the screed

Re: Think I have messed up
Yes it should be turned on to allow the screed to expand......
I think the only option you have really apart from re-tile is to leave them be and grout with a flexible grout to accomadate limited movement......the only problem that might add to your adhesive selection will be the lack of a movement joint where the 2 substrates meet...
I think this is one of those jobs that you will have to see what time brings....it really should have been flexible adhesive used but seen as it is laid there's not alot you can do now is there...?..
But at least you have realised your mistake and you won't make the same one again..
Good luck....

Re: Think I have messed up
Thanks Dave,
Where the two substrates meet I used flexible adhesive a row before the wood.
I think your right I will have to wait and see, and I will do what you advised.

If you have a joint over where the 2 substrates meet then fill this joint with a matching silicone....this will create a cold expansion joint and hopefully help with your situation....

Will take that on board, however where the two substrates join is not a grout line, the tiles are 500 x 500 and span over at this point, hence why I used flex adhesive here.
You live and learn I suppose, the most important thing is my customer, I don't like doing crap jobs.
Will let you know how it goes.
Steve.
