Default Tiling kitchen floor - door strips

    Hi

I am going to tile my kitchen floor with 600x 300 porcelain tiles

Half the floor at the moment is floorboards and the new extended bit is t&g wooden sheets

Most of the floor is solid when standing/jumping on it. a slight deflection in one end which might be a joist that needs fixing first

I am thinking of plying with 9mm exterior grade ply and screwing down every 300mm

I know i need to use a flexible adhesive

Does this sound ok, i tried to persuade the wife to go with 12mm ply but she is doing my head in about the step into the other room as it is! and wants me to use 6mm

Also i know you should not use pva on the ply, but should i put something else on it to make it waterproof. I picked up a BAL leaflet which said to use SBR? on the sides of the ply

Can anyone recommend a suitable flexible adhesive

lastly the z shaped door strips i have seen to fit carpet on one side and tiles on the other only accomodate upto 9mm. but if i use 9mm ply plus the tile and adhesive i am going to be stuck
has anyone seen a door strip that can accomodate this or have any ideas on how to deal with this

Hi Bobcat, welcome to the forums. If you are only overboarding with 9mm ply then you really need top be using a 2 part flexible adhesive such as Bal Fastflex, or alternatively a product called Ardex-flex 7001. The ardex is an adhesive specially made for iling onto timber surfaces. It is only a single part product as well so is a little easier to mix. As for your door transitions, I refer yout ot our forum sponsors Schluter that responded prior to my post.
Check out this link for info on the ardex product.

You could try this from schluter........and available from CTD...

    Schlüter®-RENO-V

    APPLICATION AND FUNCTION
Schlüter-RENO-V is a profi le with an adjustable arm for creating stepless transitions between floor coverings of different heights; e.g. the transition between tile and carpet. In addition, the profi le effectively protects the edges of adjacent coverings.

The movable transition arm, via a ball-andsocket joint, allows the profi le to adjust to the height of the adjacent covering. Thus the occurrence of trip edges between coverings of different heights is eliminated. Schlüter-RENO-V is also suitable for heavy-duty applications (e.g. entrances to garages or loading docks). In such cases, the
adjustable arm is back-fi lled with mortar
