Default Tiling a floor

Hi everyone just been here reading through the forums again and their as good as ever

just a quick question on something ive been wondering about

If for example someone was tiling a bathroom floor and decided to use ply on top of floor boards for whatever reason prior to tiling how would you stand on the skirting board would this need to come off and then replaced later ? or ply up to the edge of the skirting

how would you then deal with the thickness

Eg. The ply + Addy + tile wouldnt this create a step effect out towards the bathroom door even though a minor step ?

Also Would most tilers get a chippy in to cut the ply fit , and cut around the sink etc

sorry if these questions are basic !!

I like to remove everything, sinks toilet, skirting the lot, I normally cut and fit the sheets, but you could get a chippy to do it. A step is normal as it is your job as a tiler to provide the correct substrate for the tiles. Down here if the floor to be tiled was on the 1st floor or above then the entire floor would need to be waterproofed as well, hence the reason to remove all fixtures and fittings.

I'd be using 6mm hardie backer on to floor boards, Taking of the skirtings is something you would need to discuss with the customer. If they are 100mm yes you lose hight if they are 150mm then the hight would'nt be such an issue

I'd be removing EVERYTHING. I hate seeing skirting boards in bathrooms.

Best looking projects are when tiles are floor to ceiling without interruption.

Dont like skirting over tiles here either, the height is just part and parcel really, better than the tiles coming up because the prep hasnt been put in place.
