I always grout with the socket left "hanging". I never remove sockets or get involved with plumbing 'cos I don't like getting wet or dead!

Hi mate. The only time I would grout with the sockets on is if the tile only covers half of it e.g usually a kitchen light switch otherwise unscrew em!!
I feel the need, the need for speed!

I take the sockets off and wrap green painters tape around once then give a little bend to the wires enough to make the socket or switch stick straight out from the box, Then I tile.
When the tile is dry I reinstall the socket, removing the tape first.
    Then I grout.
I don't cut the bottom and top of the box straight, I notch out the centre for the screw like drywall is done so that if the cover plate is a small one there will be no gaps showing.
