tiling brothers and tiling sisters.
i've just started some work for a local building firm doing some kitchen splashbacks. they're about 5- 7 m long and three tiles high. they want plastic trim all the way around and there's a window in each with returns to be tiled, there's six sockets and also about a sq m around the cooker.
these chaps are paying day rate but have suggested that they are expecting 1 or 2 of these tiled and grouted a day.
i've only been going 3 years but would consider this to be going really bloody fast.
i would think that it is reasonable to expect around 1 kitchen a day (give or take) - would more experienced tile masters consider this fair or am i, in fact, a sausage-fingered tiling sloth?

Re: speedy gonzalez
when i was an apprentice it was expected to tile and grout 2 of these in a day on site work, we didnt have the luxury of wet cutters back then or grinders so i had to nip the sockets out after about 3 months of doing kitchens everyday i finally managed to do it , give it a chance you will be up to speed in no time as it is so repetitve you will cut out all you wasted time eventually have they got window cills in them?

Re: speedy gonzalez
Hi mate. I've never done site work coz of that reason. I am not a fast tiler but would cetainly think I would get one done in a day. Is that 3 tiles high of 20cm or 10mm? If 10cm then you don't have to worry bout cutting under wall mounted cupboards which will sped things up. I've been going 3 yrs also and speeding up all the time so when you've done a few days I'm sure you'll get into the swing of it. Good luck matey and you never know you might get so quick that you can afford to go down the pub for a quicky at lunch

when i was an apprentice a couple of year ago i was the same i was told to tile 2 kitchens a day but to be fair must of the work on site was rough we were told to butt joint tiles so it was alot easier
you should manage at least one a day if you ve tiling for three years nearly the same as me dont rush yourself because your quality could slip
