Perimeter space for floor tiling in the

Hi there
Would like to know whether you should leave a perimeter space around floor tiles i.e. do you leave a gap from say the skirting board. Please advise.... -

Yes Howard, you should leave an expansion gap. Fill with silicone to match grout/tile/skirt to finish off.

i would go for about 2/3 mm gap , some might say 6 is b.s but imo its too much and unnecessary..

It depends really on the amount of m2 yor floor will be covering, lets say a small bathroom of about 2 m2 then a perimiter expansion gap of 2 mm would be enough but if you are covering a much larger area then you would need more room for expansion say about 4mm or even better take skirting off and tile under

I generally aim for 3mm Howard. That way if my cut is a tad too big it still fits. 6mm is a big gap to put silicone into.
PS Buying a copy of BS will cost you an arm and a leg.
