awkward job opinions sought
hi,i have a job coming up tiling a bathroom floor, she has a plumber booked 4 days before i can make it and she doesnt want to go without a toilet for 4 days for obvious reasons, could i suggest to her the plumber uncouples the toilet leaving it butted up against the waste pipe with a flexible pipe attached to the cistern so it can still be used yet it can be moved accordingly when i go to tile the floor or is this not possible?? cheers

Re: awkward job opinions sought
YES KILTY m8 thats exactly what to do,just ask her to ask the plumber to fit a valve so that you can turn water off and then put back once you have tiled. Also make sure he fits the proper waste fitting to cope with the height difference ......Bri
offset fitting is what you need fitted m8 for the waste.

Re: awkward job opinions sought
is it just a flexi pipe brian with a valve i turn to stop water coming out then id undo valve at toilet end and remove toilet m8?

Re: awkward job opinions sought
Just get the plumber to fit the pan only.....then the customer can flush it with a bucket and it will easier to remove and put back ..

Re: awkward job opinions sought
Get the plumber to put a piece of 12mm ply under the pan when he does the temporary installation, so that the connections are at the correct height after you tile.

If it is a new fit the Toilet should have an isolation valve fitted anyway

Re: awkward job opinions sought
Been there and done that - if you get the plumber to fit an isolation valve it will be a doddle ( must be as I did mine ) calculate the height difference of the pan with the new floor - as Brian said - and you can fit and remove it to your hearts extent. Tell her to go out for the day or tile floor first in the morning and fit loo back last thing - or did I miss something?

Re: awkward job opinions sought
Quick guide for the uninitiated - Water feed into cistern will be 15mm either copper or polypipe. Isolator valve will make the job even easier. Basically an isolator allows you to stop the flow of water to a fitting without the need to shut the water off at the mains and therefore depriving the rest of the property of the flow of water. If you are unsure about the direction of the flow of water through a pipe that has an isolator valve built into the run of pipe work, check the side of the valve it will have a direction arrow on it.
Removing a close coupled toilet is pretty easy, just be careful if pan is secured to floor with screws. 2 TIPS: 1) The holes in the pan can break if to much pressure is applied when putting screws back. 2) When reconnecting the pan connector to the soil pipe, apply some lubricant such as washing-up liquid, it makes the job easier.
