    Default Ply or backi board

Hi, guys next week i have got an ensuite to tile, the floor is 4m2 wooded boards in good nick and the toilet will be removed, now what would be the best way to board the floor and do yu need to leave anexpansion gap rnd the sides of the room also would 300mm spaces between the screws be ok and how long do the screws need to be i dont want to be hitting any pipes etc, i was thinking of using part 2 flexi addy would this apply to the grout aswell and do the boards need priming, i have seen the backi boards in topps 6mm ones look ok to me...do you butt the boards together just concerned about movement and do you cut cut the boards with a normal saw..sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance...

hi mate, you can board the floor with marine ply,if you do leave expansion gap all the way around the room of 10-15mm, screw every 300mm as you said, can butt the boards toghether, just remember to stagger the joints.
just done a job and used nomoreply 6mm, its meant to be the same as using 15mm ply, (so i was told), more expensive but i like it because it comes in managable pieces.
get a ady thats got the primer already in(should say on the bag).
i am still cutting using a saw, hope this helps, good luck

Most adhesive manufacturers advise you leave at least a 2mm gap between each board....and as mentioned stagger the joints.....

I always prime ply and cement boards no matter what flexi addy I use.
I glue and screw at 300mm centres, stagger the boards and go in the 90 degrees to the floorboards. If floorboards are 18mm thick and cement boards are 6mm thick then make sure the screws are less than 24mm long and you won't burst any pipes .

    Good luck.

If the floor if in poor condition and needs replacing, 18mm ply does the job. To overlay an existing floor, tile backer every time for me.
