Default Tiling onto floorboards (a no no???))

i again everyone, hope you're all ok! Thia part time tiling is taking up more time than my full time job at the moment, i'm knackered!

Anyway here's my querie, about to do a small bathoom at the weekend and the guy only has normal floorboards, what do i need to do/lay before i can tile the floor for him? Also does it matter whether the tiling is done before the shower cubicle goes in or after?

I would overply the boards using 12mm ply screwed at 250mm in a grid form, fit shower tray then tile the floor using flexi adhesive and flexi grout.(4mm spacers on floors and check with adhesive manufacturer if ply should be primed before tiling)

When boarding over the floorboards if floor height is an issue you could try using nomoreply as this is only 6mm thick and is meant to add strength too....

cheers fellas, i thought as much to be honest, i've just done is daughters kitchen bathroom and his kitchen floor but it was all nice level screed floor so i thought i'd best double check about the floorboards. He's adamant the lad in the tile shop where he got his tiles told him it'd be fine (reoccurring theme methinks) but i wasn't so sure.

So you say the shower cubicle needs to go in first before tiling the floor? Is that a nessessity or ust preferred?

they're 300x300 mosaic effect tiles that are going down, he wants me to put them down before the shower cubicle goes in but i thought i'd check on here first!

do you mean shower cubicle as in shower door and shower tray ?or just the shower tray ?tiling once a shower door is fitted is a nightmare due to the restricted access and possibility of damage to the door my advice would be leave the shower door until the tiles are fitted and grouted just make sure you have the correct opening size

I't just the bathroom floor i'm tiling, he's panelled the walls already, It's just the shower base i'm meaning, It's a curvd base going in and he's wanting me me put the tiles down once the waste pipe is in then he can just plonk the base on top of the tiles

As long as the boards are in sound, dry, rigid, unvarnished and screwed down to joists at 300mm centres , then BAL Fastflex can be used.

One more thing, 2 coats of APD primer should be applied before tiling too.

Also to tile straight onto floor boards they have to be clean ( no varnish etc etc )...so might require sanding first to create a key for primer.....

    One more after thought, redeye.

You should use a solid bed tipped trowel with BAL FastFlex, mate.
