I am actually surprised at the lack of discussion we have on the forum with regards to tiling steps,as i find that a lot of steps are either not square or need packing out etc .Is it just me or do a lot of you guys avoid steps because of weather issues etc and the hassle that i am enduring to get them square,please leave comments.

Re: surprised
If steps are not in a good enough condition to tile with little prep then i don't do them for the reasons in the last thread bri......you cannot guarantee that any patching will hold.....water can get in and blow any patching especially in the winter months when water freezes.........just my opinion though..not worth the hassle...

Re: surprised
theres rules and regs to follow when tiling steps to conform to the insurance rules ie 10" steads 6"risers now to achieve this string a line from the ffl top to the ffl bottom and if needs be fix the risers with sand and cement its the easiest way working to the line
ffl= finished floor level

Re: surprised
Set a piece of lath on the wall ether side of the step at the required distance for the riser. Apply semi dry screed and rule of to the lath. Mix a wet slurry of neat cement and brush it on the back of the tile then fix the tile to the semi dry screed this will give a solid bed and a strong step

Re: surprised
Just explain that he under quoted Bri and thats why he's not doing. Better doing it right m8 than getting called back.

Re: surprised
Steps are a "BUGGER" always have been always will be. I find if you need to do alot of prep work a day rate will be an honest approch if the are true and correct then I'd charge between $30-50 dollars a lineal meter so if there is a meter of tread and a meter of rise that would be 2 lineal meters.
