Default flexible adhesive

hi all,i thought you didnt need to use a flexible adhesive when putting ceramics onto a concrete floor only when using porcelain,,was told today by a tiler on the job i should be using flexi?? is this correct? bit confused now also whilst im on the subject what is the actual difference between a 1 part and a 2 part flexible adhesive? havent actually use a 2 part flexi yet ,cheers

BAL Fastflex Powder & Liquid
A two part, rapid-setting, sulphate-resistant, water-resistant and frost-resistant floor tile adhesive and isolating, anti-fracture underlay, suitable for use in interior and exterior locations. Suitable for fixing ceramic floor and porcelain tiles and mosaics (including fully vitrified), dark natural stone and slate. Suitable for use on tile backer boards, glazed tiles, concrete bases, cement:sand screeds, tongue & groove floorboarding, plywood overlay, floating plywood/chipboard floors, ceramic/quarry tile/terrazzo/hard natural stone bases, vinyl tiles/sheet, mastic asphalt, steel, glass reinforced polyester (GRP), steel and galvanised steel. Conforms to BS EN 12004, Type C, Class 1F
BAL Single Part Flexible
A flexible, non-slip, water-resistant and frost-resistant wall and floor tile adhesive, especially suitable for fixing tiles, including fully vitirfied and porcelain tiles to low porosity backgrounds/bases. Suitable for use on concrete/brick/block walling, cement:sand rendering, plaster, plasterboard, cement sheets, tile backer boards, concrete bases, cement:sand screeds, plywood overlay, ceramic/quarry tile/terrazzo/hard natural stone, vinyl tiles/sheet bases, mastic asphalt. Conforms to BS EN 12004, Type C, Class 2T.

SPEED MEANS NOTHING WITHOUT QUALITY....

excellent but surely non flexible rapid set is fine for a solid concrete floor is it not??

I don't think flexi is necessary on concrete but if it was heated I would go flexi.

Bal Rapidset, Goldstar and CTF3 are all ok for concrete according to te BAL Bible!

If there is no movement in the subfloor a non flexable addy can be used.

SPEED MEANS NOTHING WITHOUT QUALITY....

Any doubts and if using Bal products check out PowerSpec Online Tiling adhesive and grout specifier

You just need to make sure the adhesive is suitable for porcleain....most rapid sets are now.....Mapei do a good range and good prices as well at CTD.......

Yep agreed, no movement, dont need flexi.
That tiler is wasting money on flexi gear!

then just use your normal rapidset.......the only time i would recommend flexi is if UFH or in a conservatory..( thermal expansion as it can get hot).........on concrete..
